Matières à Apprendre

This summer school was organised in between the two institutions; namely Ensa Nantes in France, and KU Leuven in Belgium. It took place in Mouliére, Poitiers in France from 11th until 15th of September 2023 with instructors; Anne Philippe, Jolien Naeyaert and Clara Salomon.

In the workshop, we were asked to design a care-space for the horses and humans as their companions. As a result, we collectively designed a ritual that took place in three steps and three separate but connected areas.

Together, we started by "Natural Horse(wo)manship" exercises, took the ponies on a magical forest route, and ended with a ritual around the 'Ovoo'. In 'Ovoo', our goal was to design a ritual that the horses and their human companions could create a connection.

By hanging the strap to the wooden installation, the human can take a moment to sit down and relax, while the horse can scratch his face to the wool which was intertwined around the columns, which was our intervention. We also intervened to the landscape, by gardening and creating 'ritual paths'.
