Drawing Fields

“Dom Hans van der Laan’s Drawing Fields” is a conjunct project of several weeks. It is a sequence, therefore each step leads up to the final result. The idea of these drawings starts with creating a field where they could define a space. Then, while using mixed-media techniques of drawing, they melted, mixed, and experimented their thought processes through the making of the drawings. In drawing, what we strive was to find what we could trespass and what the other mediums couldn't do as powerfully as the drawing. We focused on this strength throughout the process, to discover the absurd through making. In doing so, we used the technical drawing as our base.

Our inspiration was derived from the architect, Dom Hans van der Laan. But then, we challenged his rational ideas with a rather opposite figure, namely Sir Peter Cook. Throughout the following weeks, we delved into his speculative drawings and searched for means to create our drawings inspired by his.
