Aslı Eylem Kolbas is an academic, architect and artist; experimenting with interdisciplinary methods, such as storytelling and crafts(wo)manship. She aims to expand her curiosity onto ecological practices and entanglements with more-than-human actants. She taught at Istanbul Bilgi University in both architecture and interior architecture departments in-between 2021 and 2024, and gave several workshops and seminars in other institutions. She had been part of several exhibitions with her drawings and other design practice artefacts. She is now a PhD fellow at Hasselt University, as part of Reworlding network, which is under Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions; contributing to the research project: “Reworlding social housing estates: integrating social and ecological practices of conceiving, using and maintaining collective space”.
After completing her bachelor's degree in architecture at Istanbul Bilgi University in 2016, she started her master's degree in Architectural Design at Istanbul Technical University in 2017. Later on, she graduated from KU Leuven. During her studies in Brussels, she became one of the founders of the collective, Manhappen Studio, where the final event and exhibition was part of Alive Architecture's work with the IABR (Rotterdam International Architecture Biennale) -The Missing Link's food truck in Brussels in 2018.
From Brussels, she made her way to Amsterdam to deepen her interest in typology, which she focused on her master's thesis. She worked at “Office Winhov”, which focuses on certain typologies.
Afterwards, she returned to Istanbul and took part in the exhibition, "Mamut Art Project" in 2020 with her master's thesis "Macbeth(f.)".
She worked as an architect on the sculpture/facade designed by Seçkin Pirim in Istanbul as field architect. In 2021, she became part of the “Emerging Architects Selection and Exhibition” by The Circle. In 2022, her furniture design was selected at “Future Heirlooms” and will be manufactured and exhibited in 2023.
In between 2021 and 2024, she taught several courses and the first year Basic Design Studio in both architecture and interior design departments at Istanbul Bilgi University, as well as giving two speculative drawing related electives in both Istanbul Bilgi University and Istinye University.
